Peacemaking

Peacemaking usually means examining which steps are useful in handling ongoing disputes and typically entails diplomatic actions aimed at bringing opposing parties to something like a mediated accord. It might include peaceful settlements such as negotiation, mediation or diplomatic interventions which are helpful in stopping conflicts or wars. Mostly peacemaking requires diplomatic efforts aimed at ending violence and such efforts are usually supported by state or political institutions. Article 33 of the UN Charter layout peaceful interventions to be used in violent situations.1 Ex: United Nations has been actively cooperating in peace making throughout the world specially through modes of mediation. UN defines peacemaking as “actions to bring disputed parties to an agreement in peaceful methods which are expressed in chapter VI of the UN Charter.

Peace enforcement

Peace enforcement means application of coercive power. It can be military interventions in order to restore peace. Sometimes peace enforcement does not require definite consent of the state parties when it threatens international peace or the security. Ex: Peace enforcements were occurred in Somalia, Bosnia, Sierra Leone and Haiti.

Peace keeping

Peacekeeping seems to be an involvement into an unstable area to aid in the transition of that area especially to peace. It is among the UN's most potent and traditionally effective tools for conflict de-escalation and civilian security. Peacekeeping forces might include citizens or police officers, although the vast majority of them are armed military troops. 1 "negotiation, enquiry, mediation, conciliation, arbitration, judicial settlement, [and] resort to regional agencies or arrangements" Ex: UN has executed 69 peace keeping missions all around the world. Thereby UN was able to restore peace in many affected areas of the world. There are ongoing 16 peace missions consists of more than 100,000 peace makers all over the world.

Peace building

Peace building is indeed a lengthy process that involves encouraging people to communicate, mending relationships, and rebuilding institutions. Anyone impacted by a harmful dispute must be part of the process of building peace for positive change to be successful. Relationship transformation is critical to putting an end to violence. That includes figuring out why people are resort to violence initially in the place and figuring out how to move things ahead. This really is true whether the conflict is between communities, societies, or the state and regular citizens
